Bible Character Studies and Readings for Families

How do I read the Bible with my kids?

A good resource is so important. But just as important as the resource is knowing how to use it. I am not the greatest at fixing things and using tools. We have a saw at our house and I am terrified of using it. I have no idea how to hold it or be safe with it. I don’t know what materials it can cut, how thick, or what to do if it gets stuck.

God’s Word is His love letter, His instructions, His plan, and His story to us. It comforts us, encourages us, teaches us. II Timothy 3: 16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”. The idea of equipping is to have a tool. When you equip someone you not only give them a tool but help teach them how to use the tool. The Bible is practically, our tool. Ephesians 6: 17 says, “…take the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God”. The Bible is specifically, our weapon. It’s use is to defend ourselves against the enemy.

My desire is that the Bible be read in the homes of believers and that parents would know and feel equipped to read the Bible to their children. Reading a children’s Bible is fine! But, if you want to get a little deeper with your kids, which they can do. They are incredibly capable. I wanted to give you a series of studies where you can read straight from the Bible. They are based on Bible Characters or Themes such as Moses or the Tabernacle.

There are several components to them:

  1. Based on a theme or character.

  2. Reading from a regular Bible.

  3. A visual to illustrate the passage to help your kids remember.

  4. A topic to discuss. Talking helps solidify understanding.

  5. Questions to discuss through out the study.

  6. A memory verse for the study.

I have started writing them up and will post as often as I have them ready.

The first one I have is Joseph. Click on the image to download.
