Science Friday~ Experiential Learning

Science Friday~ Experiential Learning

“Tell me and I forget,

teach me and I may remember,

involve me and I learn.”

-Benjamin Franklin

This semester we have made Fridays science day. We are doing physics. We do several experiments or demonstrations. It makes it easier on me to get all the supplies and do several demonstrations and experiments all at once, than have to do one every day. We talk about what we observe, verbalizing helps them understand the concepts. Then after lunch they write about it in their notebooks.

This Friday we did some experiments on force, air pressure, and motion. Then we took a trip to the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum. The library has free passes so we picked one up earlier in the week and it was free! We had a great time learning about how balloons fly, how they are made, the history of them, and even weather. We haven’t been there in a while and there is a whole new section on weather.

Next week the Albuquerque International Balloon fiesta starts. Hopefully, when we go they can be tour guides for dad and our guests and use what they learned to explain the science of ballooning.

Learning through experience with a real-life purpose is my favorite way to teach!

May you have Abundant Days for His glory and your good,

Kristin Overman
