In this art appreciation class, students will explore the art of medieval Europe; from elaborately woven tapestries to meticulously illustrated manuscripts. We will discuss how materials and pigments would have been sourced, as well as the techniques that would have been available to artisans at the time. Students will have the opportunity to practice much of what they learn through age-appropriate activities and art projects, such as weaving simple mats, creating stained “glass,” making chainmail, and learning the basics of calligraphy.
Given the nature of this class, students must have the ability to listen quietly during lessons, as well as follow instructions.

Your first through third graders will be enthralled by the story of a cottonwood tree that watched the pageant of history on the Santa Fe Trail, where it stood. We will do crafts and activities that help the children remember each section of history from the Native Americans to the Spanish to the western travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. Come join us as we study an important part of the history from where they live.
